Jonathan Ross Slammed Over Sex Joke

jrossbbc0209_468x655

Jonathan Ross has been slammed by the family of an 86-year-old Alzheimer’s sufferer over an “unforgivable” sex joke.

Jonathan’s BBC Radio 2 colleague Andy Davies, was talking on air about an elderly woman who kept kissing and cuddling him while he was carrying out jobs at his Spanish home, Ross then joked: “I think you should just, for charity, give her one last night. One last night before the grave. Would it kill you?”

The comments provoked anger from the son of Francisca Guzman, who said the joke was aimed at his frail mother, who has suffered dementia for three years. He said that the comments were un-forgivable and he spoke of how his mother is very old and suffers from Alzheimers – which has lead to serious mental health problems and it is not a suitable topic for comedy.

The BBC, which had recorded 25 complaints by Monday morning, previously said there was “clearly no intention to offend anyone”. Ross comments on his words were: “It was a spontaneous, light-hearted remark made in response to an anecdote set in Spain, where no-one was named or ever likely to hear the broadcast. As far as I was concerned, the story may even have been apocryphal or exaggerated for comedic purposes, as is common practice on radio and comedy shows around the country.”

“Absolutely no offence to any individual was intended and, if the media wasn’t hell bent on stirring up controversy, I’m sure none would be taken.”

Jonathan Ross Returns To Friday Nights

Despite swearing several times and making a series of crude remarks during the pre-recording of Friday Night with Jonathan Ross on Thursday morning, Friday’s broadcast of his chat show was radically toned down, with all of Ross’s bad language and sexually suggestive remarks cut from the final version of the programme.

Ross twice directed the F-word at Tom Cruise, he also swore at the comedian Lee Evans, another guest of the show, who used the word s*** shortly after he came on. In response, Ross said: “Don’t come on here with your f****** foul mouth. This is a brave new world.”

All of Ross’s swear words were cut from the programme when it was aired on Friday night and during his interview with Tom Cruise, Ross asked Tom if he could feel his right biceps, before once again making a crude remark which was also cut from the final version of the show which aired on Friday night after Ross was suspended for three months after he and Russell Brand left a series of lewd telephone messages for the actor Andrew Sachs.

Ross also made several joking references to Brand, all of which were cut from Friday’s broadcast, but after five million people tuned in to watch Friday’s show, i think we can safety say trust in broadcasting and Jonathan Ross has been restored.

2008 Was A Bad Year For These Celebrities

AMY WINEHOUSE
It’d be unfair to suggest that Amy’s year has been all bad. She won an Ivor Novello songwriting award in May; was honoured with a wax dummy in Madame Tussauds in July and her hubby got out of jail in November. But Amy also received a caution for slapping a man in the face, was arrested after a video surfaced of her smoking what appeared to be crack cocaine, and got in a fight with a member of her own audience during her set at Glastonbury. Amy was too ill to attend the unveiling of her wax dummy, she only found out about the early release of her estranged husband after reading about it in the paper, and she was hospitalised in November after a bad reaction to prescription medicine.

JONATHAN ROSS
Jonathan started 2008 by bagging a prestigious Sony Gold Award for his hugely popular Radio 2 show, and kicked off another series of his chat show, Friday Night With Jonathan Ross. But all that changed in October, when he teamed up with Russell Brand to make prank phone calls to 78-year-old actor Andrew Sachs on Brand’s Radio 2 show. Eighteen thousand people complained, Brand resigned from the BBC, and Ross was suspended without pay for three months. His £18 million four-year deal was also called into question, he is due to return to work in January 2009.

DANNII MINOGUE
Ms Minogue was the big success story of X Factor 2007, guiding her acts Leon Jackson and Rhydian Roberts to first and second place in her first year as a judge. But in 2008, Dannii’s X Factor fortunes have disappeared (like her tiny nose). Feisty Rachel Hylton and Dannii struggled to see eye-to-eye; there were reported spats between Dannii and Simon Cowell; Simon chose to sit next to new, younger judge Cheryl Cole on the panel; and then Dannii broke down in tears during a live show in November following a spat with Louis Walsh.

MADONNA
‘Life With My Sister Madonna’ was written by the star’s younger brother, Christopher Ciccone, who admits he has not spoken to the star for several years. 2008 will also be remembered as the year the queen of pop filed for divorce from Guy Ritchie after eight years of marriage. “I’m sad about my personal life,” she admitted. “But I feel very blessed and very lucky that I have the opportunity to do what I do in my professional life.” Madonna had wanted their three children to settle in New York, but as part of her divorce deal with Guy, she has agreed that he should share custody of his sons.

SIENNA MILLER
Can anyone name a film that Sienna Miller starred in this year? 2008 has been all about Sienna’s private life. The 26-year-old suffered a very public backlash after she began dating a married father-of-four, Balthazar Getty from the Channel 4 series Brothers and Sisters. Sienna’s profile took a further battering after photos surfaced of the topless star kissing Getty on a boat of the coast of Italy, and not long after, Sienna’s London home was defaced with graffiti.

KERRY KATONA
In August 2008, Kerry was declared bankrupt for failing to pay an enormous tax bill. Then she appeared to be slurring her words during an interview on This Morning in October, prompting hosts Phillip Schofield and Fern Britton to inquire about her wellbeing. Kerry blamed prescription drugs for her condition, but in the days following the interview, she sacked longtime publicist Max Clifford and admitted she had been diagnosed an alcoholic a few years ago.

Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand News

Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand have been suspended from the BBC and all their shows taken off air – this has been confirmed by director general Mark Thompson.

The decision came after the BBC launched an inquiry into the pair’s behaviour after they made prank phone calls to Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs and aired them on Russell’s Radio 2 show on October 18.

Both stars have since apologised to Sachs for their actions, but the BBC decided to suspend the highly-paid pair after they received over 10,000 complaints, and both Gordon Brown and David Cameron spoke out about the incident.

Ofcom announced it is investigating whether the prank calls broke the broadcasting code, which sets standards for the content of all UK TV and radio programmes.

Russel Brand has since resigned from the BBC after he was suspended and has severed any links he had with the pubcaster. Brand has said he takes complete responsibility for the obscence messages left on the answer phone and hope the BBC will endure “less forensic wrath” now he has backed down and resigned. Brand has also said, “I got a bit caught up in the moment and forgot that at the core of the rude comments and silly songs were the real feelings of a beloved and brilliant comic actor and a very sweet and big-hearted young woman.”

Jonathan Ross’s ‘Friday night with Jonathan Ross’ has also been taken off air and he has been suspended from work with the BBC for three months unpaid, although considering he gets paid six million a year – i don’t think missing out on three months pay will be too much of an issue for him…
